Strasbourg, October 26th, 2016 – Citizens opposing UIMP gather at the Maison des Associations and then enter the European Parliament

Dear Ms Lunacek and Mr Papadimoulis,
On 26th October 2016 in the European Parliament in Strasbourg citizens fighting against Unnecessary Imposed Mega Projects (UIMP) delivered the Judgement of the Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal “Fundamental Rights, Participation of Local Communities and Mega Projects: from the Lyon-Turin high-speed rail to the global reality” to the European Institutions.
On that day, as Vice Presidents of the European Parliament, you were the Ambassadors of the European Institutions.
We listened to your speeches with interest, particularly waiting to hear your decisions with regards to stopping UIMP in Europe.

Il 26 ottobre 2016 nel Parlamento Europeo a Strasburgo cittadini la lotta contro le Grandi Opere Inutili e Imposte (GOII) hanno consegnato alle Istituzioni europee la Sentenza del Tribunale Permanente dei Popoli “Diritti fondamentali, partecipazione delle comunità locali e dei mega progetti: dalla ferroviaria ad alta velocità Torino-Lione alla realtà globale”
In quel giorno, come Vice Presidenti del Parlamento europeo, voi eravate gli Ambasciatori delle Istituzioni europee.
Abbiamo ascoltato i vostri interventi con interesse, e restiamo soprattutto in attesa di conoscere le vostre decisioni per quanto riguarda l’arresto delle GOII in Europa.

Le 26 octobre 2016 au Parlement européen à Strasbourg, les citoyens qui luttent contre les Grands Projets Inutiles et Imposés (GPII) ont remis aux Institutions européennes le Jugement du Tribunal Permanent des Peuples «Droits fondamentaux, participation des communautés locales et grands projets: du TGV Lyon-Turin à la réalité globale “
Ce jour-là, en tant que Vice-présidents du Parlement européen, vous étiez les Ambassadeurs des Institutions européennes.
Nous avons écouté vos discours avec intérêt, et restons en particulier dans l’attente d’entendre vos décisions concernant l’arrêt des GPII en Europe.

Care amiche e cari amici,
il 26 ottobre 2016 si è realizzato nel Parlamento Europeo un atto politico e simbolico di elevato valore: la consegna alle Istituzioni europee da parte di cittadine e di cittadini della Sentenza “Diritti Fondamentali, Partecipazione delle Comunità Locali e Grandi Opere, dal Tav Torino-Lione alla realtà globale” emessa nel mese di novembre 2015 dal Tribunale Permanente dei Popoli – TPP.
E’ stato possibile realizzare questo atto non rituale perché la volontà delle cittadine e dei cittadini che lo hanno richiesto ha incontrato la disponibilità di altri cittadine e cittadini, Membri del Parlamento europeo, ai quali va il nostro ringraziamento.
La consegna non è stata tuttavia un atto fine a sé stesso. Ci auguriamo che i Vice Presidenti che hanno ricevuto la Sentenza del TPP la trasmettano alle altre Istituzioni europee che non erano presenti – il Consiglio e la Commissione – affinché le raccomandazioni del TPP siano portate alla loro considerazione.
Allo stesso tempo, noi cittadine e cittadini, che da decenni lottiamo contro le Grandi Opera Inutili e Imposte in tutti gli SM dell’Unione europea, abbiamo ascoltato le parole dei Vice Presidenti del Parlamento e dei MEPs con fiducia e auspichiamo che esse saranno trasformate in iniziative politiche che sosterranno le nostre lotte.

Chères amies et chers amis,
le 26 octobre 2016 a été réalisé au sein du Parlement européen une acte politique et symbolique de grande valeur: la remise aux Institutions européennes par des citoyennes et des citoyens qui luttent contre les Grands Projets Inutiles et Imposés du Jugement du Tribunal Permanent des Peuples – TPP « Droits Fondamentaux, Participation des Communautés Locales et Grands Projets, du Lyon Turin à la réalité globale ».
Il a été possible de réaliser cet acte non rituel parce que la volonté des citoyennes et de citoyens qui l’ont demandé a rencontré la disponibilité d’autres citoyennes et citoyens, Membres du Parlement européen, auxquels nous adressons nos remerciements.
La remise n’a pas été cependant un acte fin en soi. Nous souhaitons que les Vice-présidents du Parlement Européen qui ont reçu le Jugement du TPP le transmettent aux autres Institutions européennes qui n’étaient pas présentes – le Conseil et la Commission – afin que les recommandations du TPP soient portées à leur considération.
Dans le même temps nous, citoyennes et citoyens qui, depuis des décennies luttons contre les Grands Projets Inutiles et Imposés dans tous les EM de l’Union européenne, en ayant écouté les paroles des Vice-présidents du Parlement et des Députés européens avec confiance, espérons qu’elles seront transformées en actions politiques qui soutiendront nos luttes.

Dear friends,
On October 26th, 2016 a political and symbolic act of high value took place in the European Parliament: citizens handed the TPP’s Judgment “Fundamental Rights, Participation of Local Communities and Mega Projects, from the Lyon-Turin high-speed rail to the global reality“, issued in the month of November 2015, over to the European institutions.
It has been possible to achieve this not ritual act, thanks to the will of citizens, who have requested it, met with the availability of other citizens, Members of the European Parliament, whom we thank.
However, the delivery was not an end-in-itself act. As many speakers emphasized, we hope that the Vice Presidents of the European Parliament who received the Judgment will transmit it to the other European institutions that were not present – the Council and the Commission – to ensure that the TPP recommendations are brought to their consideration.
At the same time, we citizens, who since decades are fighting against Unnecessary Imposed Mega Projects in all of the EU Member States, listened to the words of the Vice-Presidents of Parliament and MEPs with confidence and hope that they will be transformed into policy initiatives that will support our struggles.
